Welcome to Manhattan Shopping Centre
CH Manhattan
The Manhattan Shopping Centre building has been designed to form a compact building. During the design process a deep emphasis has been made on the architecture to be both functional and spacious, at the same time taking into consideration the communication and technical aspect of the place. It’s a building which harmoniously fits in into the functional-spacious structure of the Wrzeszcz district. The building’s architecture, despite its modern form, affiliates both with its scale and character to the surrounding development. The high standard of the building is emphasized by the excellent elevation and finishing materials used.
The centre can be accessed from the ground levels of all adjacent streets. The interior communication route made up of multistorey passage with a glass rooftop is joined with escalators and seven elevators. The centre performs the following functions: trade, service, gastronomy and office.
History
In 1991 right next to the already existing centre a new one was build on an area which was once upon a time used as a tram terminal and was located on Partyzantów street. The centre was named “Sukces” and included around a 100 shops. Since the centre got clients approbation and was visited on a regular basis, three years later in 1994 the traders decided on a new investment. They build a third centre known as “Sukces Bis” with around 80 shops. On the 9th of September 1997, due to rapid changes on the market, dynamic expansion in hypermarkets and the increasing competition, the traders decided to form a joint-stock company called “GCH Manhattan”. The newly formed 100% polish capital company was going to be an answer of the polish investors to the foreign capital, at the same time it was also a mutual vision of the future of “Manhattan”. On the 22nd of December 1997after reaching an agreement with the town municipality, the company bought the territory in Wrzeszcz on which the three previously build centres were standing.
This move initiated the preparation of a new investment – a huge trade-service centre, which was to dim other such centres.
The next step in the implementation of the investment was to sign a contract with the general contractor. The selected company known as “Hydrobudowa” S.A with its headquarters in Gdańsk offered the best terms & conditions and on the 15th of September 2000 the contract was signed by both parties. The construction commenced in August 2001. During the summer of 2002 an unexpected halt occurred in the construction and unfortunately lasted several months, but with the arrival of winter same year the works at the site once again resumed. “Hydrobudowa” S.A., the general contractor obliged to hand over the building in the first quarter of 2004 and on the 5th of March same year the centre had its opening!
